Care Assistant

Position Summary

The Care Assistant is responsible for providing basic support and non-clinical care to patients under the supervision of the Nurse Manager. This role ensures patient comfort, hygiene, nourishment, and emotional well-being while assisting the nursing team in daily operations. The Care Assistant contributes to maintaining a clean and safe care environment for residents and supports them in daily living activities.

Reporting Lines

In this position of Care Assistant you will report to the Nursing Manager or the Executive nominated by the Management in this behalf. The organization reserves the right to revise reporting structures and responsibilities in accordance with operational needs. A copy of the job description laid down for your position is attached.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Personal Care and Hygiene Support
  • Assist patients with bathing, oral hygiene, dressing, grooming, toileting, and diaper change.
  • Support patient positioning, turning, and transferring (bed to chair/wheelchair, etc.).
  • Change bed linens and keep patient rooms clean and comfortable.
  1. Mobility and Engagement
  • Assist patients in walking or transferring for physiotherapy, sunbathing, or leisure activities.
  • Encourage and accompany residents to participate in day-to-day movement and recreational sessions.
  1. Nutrition Support
  • Serve and feed meals to residents as per dietary instructions.
  • Ensure hydration and safe feeding practices are followed.
  1. Monitoring and Reporting
  • Observe and report any changes in the patient’s physical, emotional, or behavioral condition.
  • Maintain patient records (basic care charts, feeding logs, elimination records, etc.) in a timely and accurate manner.
  1. Cleanliness and Safety
  • Ensure cleanliness and orderliness in patient surroundings.
  • Follow infection control and hygiene protocols while handling waste, soiled linens, and personal items.
  • Respond quickly and calmly to emergency situations and alert supervisors immediately.
  1. Communication and Compassion
  • Listen and respond to patient needs politely and compassionately.
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, especially those with limited mobility or cognitive decline.

 Profile

Knowledge and Experience

  • Education: GDA / 10th Std / PUC
  • Experience: Freshers and above (Geriatric care experience preferred)
  • Skills: Basic patient care, hygiene management, empathetic communication, and teamwork
